Santa Cristina d'Aro: ten minutes inland, twice the house for the money.
Santa Cristina d'Aro is the next town up the Ridaura valley: a lived-in Catalan town of five thousand people with shops, schools and restaurants that work all year, surrounded by quiet residential estates of villas on large plots, with the cork-oak hills of the Gavarres behind and the beach at Platja d'Aro ten minutes in front.
The place
The town sits where the valley widens between the Gavarres massif and the sea, on the road from Platja d'Aro to Girona. Above it, the village of Romanyà de la Selva looks over the whole bay from the hills, with the megalithic dolmen of Cova d'en Daina on the way; below it, the Golf Costa Brava course spreads twenty-seven holes through the pines. Girona and its airport are about half an hour by road, Barcelona about an hour and a quarter.
Housing is mostly detached: villas on plots of a thousand square metres and more in estates such as Golf Costa Brava, Roca de Malvet and Vall Repòs, plus town houses in the old centre. It suits buyers who want space, a garden and a pool more than a sea view, and families who want a year-round town rather than a resort street.
The other towns we cover
- Platja d'AroTwo kilometres of beach, the Passeig Marítim, year-round shops and restaurants. First-line apartments and the hillside villas of Mas Nou and Politur.
- S'AgaróThe 1920s garden estate on the Sant Pol headland and the villas of Sa Conca. The most expensive address on this coast, with prices to match Cadaqués.
- Castell d'AroThe medieval village and the Ridaura valley three kilometres inland. Houses with land, a quieter pace, and the golf at Mas Nou.
- Sant Feliu de GuíxolsA working town with a monastery, a port and an old quarter. Better value per square metre, and a life that does not close in October.

What Santa Cristina d'Aro costs
Asking prices on the portals, October 2026, from 216 listings in Santa Cristina d'Aro. The money that buys an apartment on the seafront in Platja d'Aro buys a detached villa with a garden here — that trade-off is the whole point of the town.

Services
How Emerald works in Santa Cristina d'Aro
Buying a villa
Estates differ street by street in plot size, views, community fees and how much work the houses need. We walk you through those differences, then check planning, boundaries and the legal status of pools and extensions before you offer.
Selling
Buyers for Santa Cristina are German, Dutch, French, British and increasingly Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking families, plus Catalans trading up from the coast. We price on closed sales in the valley, not on coastal asking prices, and market in four languages.
Renting long-term
A steady year-round rental market of families and people working along the bay. Contracts under the Catalan rules, tenant screening, deposit registered at INCASÒL.
Managing
Gardens, pools and alarm systems need regular attention when you are away. Monthly inspections, trusted local trades and one statement a month.
