Castell d'Aro: a medieval village, a valley of houses with land, and the beach ten minutes away.
Castell d'Aro is the inland half of the municipality: the old village around the castle and the church, the farmhouses and family homes of the Ridaura valley, and the residential estates on the hill towards the Mas Nou golf course. It is where people buy when they want a garden, a quieter pace and a year-round community, without giving up the coast.
The place
The village grew around the Castell de Benedormiens, documented in the eleventh century, and the church of Santa Maria; the old streets are a short, pleasant walk and still have a bakery, a bar and a school. The Ridaura river runs down the valley to Platja d'Aro, and the flat land either side holds masies and newer detached houses on generous plots.
On the slopes, the Mas Nou estate straddles the boundary with Platja d'Aro around the golf course, with larger villas and sea views over the bay. Girona and its airport are about forty minutes by road, Barcelona about an hour and a half, and Platja d'Aro's beach and shops are a five-minute drive or a flat cycle along the river path.
The other towns we cover
- Platja d'AroTwo kilometres of beach, the Passeig Marítim, year-round shops and restaurants. First-line apartments and the hillside villas of Mas Nou and Politur.
- S'AgaróThe 1920s garden estate on the Sant Pol headland and the villas of Sa Conca. The most expensive address on this coast, with prices to match Cadaqués.
- Sant Feliu de GuíxolsA working town with a monastery, a port and an old quarter. Better value per square metre, and a life that does not close in October.
The market, in numbers
What Castell d'Aro costs
Prices are for the whole municipality of Castell-Platja d'Aro. Castell d'Aro itself trades at a discount to the coast for the same floor area, which is the point: the money goes into land and space rather than into a sea view.

Services
How Emerald works in Castell d'Aro
Buying a house with land
Rural and semi-rural property needs more checking than a flat: planning classification, water and drainage, the legal status of any extension, and access. We do that before you offer, not after.
Selling a family home
Comparables from the valley and the village rather than from the beach, so the price is credible from day one, plus photography that shows the land and the light.
Renting long-term
Castell d'Aro attracts year-round tenants: families and people who work in Platja d'Aro and Sant Feliu. Contracts under the Catalan rules, deposit registered at INCASÒL.
Managing
Gardens, pools and older houses need regular eyes on them. Monthly inspections, trusted local trades and one statement a month.
