Sant Feliu de Guíxols: a real town on the sea, with the best value per square metre on the bay.

Sant Feliu de Guíxols is the largest town on this stretch of coast and the one that does not close in October: a monastery, a port and marina, a market, schools and health services, and an old quarter of narrow streets. Property here costs about a quarter less per square metre than in Castell-Platja d'Aro, which makes it the natural choice for year-round living and for buyers who want the coast without the resort premium.

The place

The town sits in a bay of its own between the Punta de Garbí and the Sant Elm headland, with the Passeig del Mar and the town beach in the middle and the port at the southern end. The Benedictine monastery with its pre-Romanesque Porta Ferrada gives the town its summer music festival and its skyline; the old quarter behind the promenade has fishermen's houses, small squares and the market.

Apartments line the Passeig del Mar and the streets behind it; townhouses and renovated fishermen's houses fill the old quarter; and the hills towards Sant Elm and the road to Tossa hold villas with some of the best views on the coast. Sant Pol beach, shared with S'Agaró, is a fifteen-minute walk along the coastal path.

The other towns we cover

  • Platja d'AroTwo kilometres of beach, the Passeig Marítim, year-round shops and restaurants. First-line apartments and the hillside villas of Mas Nou and Politur.
  • S'AgaróThe 1920s garden estate on the Sant Pol headland and the villas of Sa Conca. The most expensive address on this coast, with prices to match Cadaqués.
  • Castell d'AroThe medieval village and the Ridaura valley three kilometres inland. Houses with land, a quieter pace, and the golf at Mas Nou.

FAQ

Questions people ask us about Sant Feliu de Guíxols

Why is Sant Feliu cheaper than Platja d'Aro and S'Agaró?
It is a working town rather than a resort: more year-round housing, fewer first-line tourist blocks, and a larger stock of ordinary apartments. You pay for a life that runs twelve months a year rather than for a beachfront premium.
Can I rent my apartment to holidaymakers in Sant Feliu?
Only with a valid tourist licence (HUT), and Catalonia now caps licences in municipalities with housing stress and moves them to a five-year renewable regime from 2028. Many communities of owners also restrict holiday lets in their statutes. We check both before you buy.
Is there parking in the old quarter?
Rarely with the house. Budget for a garage space nearby or accept street parking; we tell you which streets are realistic before you view.
How do I get there without a car?
Direct buses connect Sant Feliu with Girona and Barcelona, and Girona airport is about forty minutes by road. Within the bay, the coastal path links Sant Feliu, S'Agaró and Platja d'Aro on foot.
